Limit watering and protect any plants that are sensitive to frost. Don't feed your roses and remember to cut them back mid-January. Spraying the roses with a dormant spray can protect them from disease. If you plan to plant bare-root roses, dig the hole while the soil is still dry.
Make sure the roof and gutters are free of debris and that downspouts flow. Also grade the soil around the foundation so that rainwater flows away from the house. Remove any objects near the house as trapped water creates problems later. Stock up on firewood, piling the wood bark side up to keep it dry.
